Financial Aid Checklist: START HERE!

This checklist will keep you on track throughout the entire Financial Aid process, from important deadlines to maintaining eligibility once you have received your award. To get started, follow these steps from FAFSA to Finish!

1 - Get your FSAID

2 - Complete your FAFSA  (see below for more information) or the California Dream Act Application

3 - Check myFinancialAid for FAFSA status, award information, and communications from the financial aid team 



General Eligibility Requirements
*To meet eligibility, students must:
  • Have Financial need. Your level of need is determined by the financial need formula: Student Cost of Attendance & Expected Family Contribution = Financial Need

  • Have a high school diploma

  • Be enrolled in an eligible program of study

  • Be a US Citizen or eligible non-citizen

  • Have a valid social security number

  • If required, register with Selective Service. Find out about requirements and how to register here

  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress

  • Have no defaulted loans or owe a grant repayment

  • Have not participated in the sale or possession of drugs while receiving Federal student aid

Eligibility, Deadlines, and Payment:                                                                                                                                                      
Paying for College: The type of aid you are eligible for will be determined by the information on your application. Check out "Paying for College" on this website to view the types of financial aid available. 
Check Important Deadlines: You can apply for Financial Aid for the next academic year starting on October 1st. The priority deadline to be eligible for campus-based aid and competitive programs is March 2. 
After You Apply: Finished applying? You can check on the progress of your financial aid award, by logging into, myFinancialAid and checking "Award" under the menu tab. 
Receive Award: Disbursement is the process used to send financial aid funds. Take a look at the Payment Calendar for payment dates. 
Maintain Eligibility: After receiving funds, you must maintain eligibility for financial aid. Review academic requirements to make sure you can continue receiving money: Satisfactory Academic Progress.

In order to ensure timely processing, complete and return requested documents to us promptly. You can do this in person, via mail or fax. 

You can check to see if you need to submit documents by logging in to your

 myFinancialAid account. 

Through this information portal, you can:

  • Complete the financial aid application
  • Check the status of your application
  • View a list of documents we've recieved from you and a list of the documents still outstanding
  • View your financial aid awards (including scholarships, if applicable)
  • Check the status of your students loans for the current year.
